Newsracks

In addition to obtaining a business license, any newsrack located in whole or in part on a public sidewalk or parkway must be registered with the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department before installation within the city. Once the registration application is completed by the owner, it should be submitted to the Public Works Department for review. The application package must include a certificate of liability insurance and a written statement indemnifying and holding the city harmless against any loss, liability, or damage resulting from the installation, use, or maintenance of the newsrack.

Once approved and a location is assigned by the Public Works Department, each newsrack may remain at the assigned location as long as it complies with the Gardena Municipal Code. The applicant is required to pay a registration fee of $78.00 per rack at the time of registration and annually thereafter, in addition to an annual business license fee. Proof of insurance must also be provided annually.

In the event of a change of ownership or publication, the new owner must promptly notify the Public Works Department in writing, providing the name, address, and telephone number of the new owner(s) and/or publication. The Newsrack Registration Application is provided below and is also available for pickup at the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department, located at 1717 W. 162nd Street, Gardena.
