There are basically two types of permits issued by the City. They are:

  • Permits that are required in conjunction with a business license to perform certain activities.
  • Permits that are required to perform certain activities that are not business related.

BUSINESS ACTIVITY PERMITS
Some of the more common types of business activities that require a permit in addition to a business license are listed above. If you are planning to conduct any of these business activities, be sure to allow at least 45 days to complete the permit review and approval process. Some permits require a background investigation and approval from other City departments and/or governmental agencies before a permit is recommended for approval.

PLANNING & BUILDING RELATED PERMITS
Most residential, commercial and industrial construction and demolition work whether it be new construction, remodels or alteration require a building permit. For example: signs, banners, fences, re-roofs, electrical upgrades, plumbing upgrades, window change outs all require a permit. STREET / PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY RELATED PERMITS
If you plan on doing any construction, demolition or travel with an oversized load within the public right-of-way, a permit will be required by the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department prior to beginning the work.
