Locally Controlled Funding for Essential City Services

On January 27, 2026, the Gardena City Council unanimously approved placing a locally controlled quarter-cent (0.25%) sales tax measure on the June 2, 2026 ballot for voter consideration. If approved by voters, Measure GG would generate approximately $3.9 million annually in local funding for essential services such as:

  • Support public safety programs to prevent crime and homelessness
  • Maintain fire and paramedic services
  • Keep parks and public areas safe, clean and graffiti free
  • Fund youth and senior programs
  • Repair streets and potholes

Fiscal Accountability Protections Keep All Funds Local

  • Revenue from the measure could not be taken by the state, county or federal government, ensuring local control and reinvestment back into the community to fund essential services
  • Measure GG includes fiscal accountability provisions that require annual independent financial audits and public review of expenditures.

Sales Tax Does NOT Apply to the following:

  • Groceries
  • Prescription medicine
  • Diapers
  • Housing & Rent
  • Utilities
  • Personal services, such as medical or dental services

Gardena voters will also have the opportunity to select the Mayor, two (2) City Councilmembers (elected at large), City Clerk, and City Treasurer on the June 2nd ballot.
