Welcome to the City of Gardena's National Disaster Preparedness Site!
National Preparedness Month or (NPM) is observed each September to help raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies. These can happen at any time and to help you to prepare for you, and your family, there will be a list of resources you can visit. This years theme is “Protect Your Legacy”.
Each week in September, we will focus on a different theme of preparedness for the community.
Gather supplies that will last for several days after a disaster for everyone living in your home. Don’t forget to consider the unique needs each person or pet may have in case you have to evacuate quickly. Update your kits and supplies based on recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control.
After disaster strikes, having access to personal financial, insurance, medical and other records is crucial for starting the recovery process quickly and efficiently.
Talk to your kids about preparing for emergencies and what to do in case you are separated. Reassure them by providing information about how they can get involved. Please visit www.ready.gov/kids for more information.
